Tories put end to council tax hikes (10/04/03)
Conservatives on the County Council have long been fighting the Liberal Democrats to reduce Council Taxes. The Conservative Group therefore welcomes the ruling administration's long over due decision to limit spending Departments as they plan for next year's budget. The Conservative proposal to review overhead and bureaucratic savings is also now being considered.David Huxtable, the Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group, commented,' At last our message is sinking in. You cannot continue to increase expenditure with limited resources, without examining priorities and justifying every programme. The Conservatives recognise the effect the soaring council tax rises has had on many and especially on those with fixed and reducing incomes, such as pensioners. We shall continue to represent the interests of all Council Tax payers.'
