By-Election Success
Conservatives increase vote share
Margaret Robinson, the widow of the former Conservative County Councillor, had a resounding victory in the County Council By-Election held on 29th May 2008.
Voters in Shepton Mallet elected Margaret with a 10% increase in the Conservative vote. The results of the 30% turnout in terrible weather were:
Margaret 950
Lib Dems 783
Labour 271
Cllr.Ken Maddock, Leader of the Conservative Group at Somerset County Council said:'Well deserved congratulations to Margaret for this result. She will continue to build on Stephen's work throughout the division and I welcome her most warmly to the Group.'
Further Conservative successes on the same day were Jeanette Marsh for Mendip District Council and Derek Marvin for Shepton Mallet Town Council.
