8 Wasted Years

For the last 8 years, the Liberal Democrat-run County Council has imposed its failed policies on us, with the result that:

  • Our rural road maintenance has had the lowest expenditure in the UK.

  • Our Social Services rank 29th out of the 35 shire counties in expenditure on our elderly.
  • Deprivation, poverty and lack of services, especially in rural areas, have increased.
  • Somerset’s schools have failed to improve at the same rate as those in similar counties:

  • Grants to voluntary organisations have been drastically cut.

  • Council taxes have risen by a staggering 44%.



Band D equivalent excluding District Council’s precept.
